Dr. Mak (Makarand) Jawadekar

Dr. Makarand (Mak) Jawadekar devoted most of his working professional years at Pfizer, Inc. based in Groton-New London Connecticut for 28 consecutive years. During his career span at Pfizer, he was responsible for Drug Delivery Technology Assessment function involving external ‘Drug Delivery’ technologies. He has extensive experience in creating and cultivating external partnerships and alliances for Drug Delivery Technologies. He began his professional career at Pfizer Central Research in early 1982, after having completed his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics, under the guidance of Prof. Edward Rippie at the University of Minnesota.

During his 28+ years of experience with Pfizer Global R&D specifically includes Solids R&D, Drug Product formulation/ Dosage Form/ Drug Delivery development, Clinical Trials Supply Manufacturing, Scale-up and Technology Transfer & Research Pharmacy functions. He helped create various Pharma R&D Partnerships, JVs, and Collaborations. He was also involved in conducting ‘Due-Diligence’ activities as a subject matter expert on behalf of Pfizer for eventual acquisition of companies or their IP assets. He managed several internal functions/groups within R&D for many years. As a bench Scientist, he got to work on many challenging commercial formulations which became multibillion-dollar products for many years for Pfizer Inc. These R & D formulations & Product development programs included Zoloft, Zithromax, Viagra faster onset, Diflucan Orally Dispersible Tablet. He also worked on many “Life Cycle Management “related projects for extending Life-cycle of Pfizer’s existing products. Dr. Jawadekar has presented at over 150+ professional meetings and has participated in various Panel Discussions/Round Tables around the globe.

He was invited by US President George W. Bush to accompany on his Official US delegation trip to India in 2006. He accompanied Presidents of Pfizer R & D to India on 2 separate occasions (in 2007 & again in 2009), where he helped orchestrate for Pfizer R & D to create Partnerships with Indian Multinational Pharma & Technology companies for R & D Collaborations and also represented at the BIOASIA conferences.

Some other notable Post Pfizer career Highlights:

• Worked with KKR, a Private Equity group in New York, for acquisition of Capsugel division from Pfizer which Pfizer divested later in 2011.
• Received Honorary Doctorate D.Sc. degree from Dr. D.Y. Patil Deemed University in Mumbai in 2011.
• During February 2018, he worked with Mr. Tonino Lamborghini, Chairman, Tonino Lamborghini S.p.A. from Italy in creating Strategic Collaborations in India, working through India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Lamborghini has started Manufacture of Electric Golf-Carts in Pune, India.
• He accompanied Hon’ble Congressman Todd Rokita (R) Indiana, on a business mission to India in 2019; where he participated in many bilateral discussions which took place between Indian companies based in Maharashtra & US Congressman Rokita.
• US Congressman Todd Rokita had bestowed him with an US ‘Congressional Honor” in November 2018.
• Participated along with AG Todd Rokita at Doha Forum @ Doha, Qatar during March 2022, as an invitee of Qatar Government.
• Participated along with the US Government delegation to FIFA World Cup Grand Opening Event in Qatar, during November 2022.
• Honored by the Regents & the President of the University of Minnesota as a recipient of the Year 2023 “Outstanding Achievement Award” during November 2023.
• Currently serves on many Board of Directors as well as Advisory Boards of Pharma / Biotech companies.
• Serves on the INTERNATIONAL ADVISORY BOARD of BioAsia, Hyderabad, Telangana State, India.
• Senior Advisor to the Family office of Saudi Arabian Prince Salman Bin Faisal Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
